Peter Wood was awarded an Honorary Life Membership at the AGM on 8 October 2011, in recognition of his long service to the band. Peter joined DCB in January 1974, and has been a constant and committed band member ever since. In receiving this Honorary Membership, he joins founder member Arthur Main in receiving this recognition. Arthur was made an Honorary Life Member in 2003.
We are looking forward to welcoming members from Slemmestad Ungdomskorps - a community wind band from Norway that DCB member Anneli Demberg used to play in.
On Saturday 17th September 2011 we will be having an 'open' rehearsal where we will meet at 9.30am and observe each other rehearsing and will also play some pieces together as a 'massed' band. DCB members are invited bring family or friends along to watch this and then to join SUK for lunch in Strathblane after this.
SUK are playing a concert in Kibble Palace in the Botanic Gardens on Sunday 18th September from 12.30-14.30 to which everyone is welcome.
On Saturday 2nd April 2011, we travelled to Perth to take part in the Scottish Concert Band Festival Final. All our practicing and hard work paid off, as we were awarded a Gold Plus award! We were thrilled by this result and we thoroughly enjoyed playing in the grand venue of Perth Concert Hall.
We were thrilled to win the Gold Award today at the Scottish Concert Band Festival, Sunday 16th January 2011. In addition to our group success, our alto saxophone player Alan Donnelly won the Solo Award for his performance in 'Cajun Folk Songs'. We are very much looking forward to the National Final in Perth on 2nd April.
